The Philosophical Society of England is a group of enthusiasts who believe in the importance of exploring philosophical ideas and their relevance to our social and personal lives. It was founded in 1913 by a group of largely amateur philosophers concerned to provide an alternative to the formal university-based discipline. The Philosophy Society of England is a charitable incorporated organisation (CIO) registered in England, charity number 1205921. It aligns itself with no particular school of philosophy and is not connected to any other movement or interest.

We develop our philosophical interests by:

  1. publishing a journal, The Philosopher
  2. organising national and regional conferences and study days
  3. sponsoring local groups
  4. maintaining a website

We bring together academic and non-academic philosophers and welcome everyone who recognises the value of open, critical discussion. Why not join us?
